Jim was saved at an early age at Carr's Branch Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member of Lone Mountain Missionary Baptist Church. He was a man of many talents, but was most passionate about cars. Jim was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Catherine Sweet; son, Larry Joe Sweet; siblings, Barbara, Norman, Michael "Hop", Jerry, and Larry.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Betty Dean Wells Sweet; son, Gary (Christine) Sweet; grandson, Jamey Sweet; great-grandson, James Sweet; brothers, Fred (Carolyn) Sweet and Bud (Joyce) Sweet; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Coffey Funeral Home in New Tazewell. Funeral service will be on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Coffey Funeral Home Chapel with graveside to follow in the Cox Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Lone Mountain Missionary Baptist Church.
