Rev. Jimmy D. Poore, age 71, passed away at his home in New Tazewell, TN, with his family by his side on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, following a short battle with cancer. He was born in New Tazewell, TN, August 7, 1950. He IS a member of Straight Creek Missionary Baptist Church, current pastor for the past 31 years. Jimmy also served as pastor at several area churches; as well as evangelist in many revivals over the years. He announced his calling to preach in 1975. He enjoyed/lived for what God had called him to do: Preaching, Church, Singing; Made the statement while he was sick, "this is no life, turn me loose, and let me GO! Church and preaching is my life." Jimmy was Proud to be Jakson's papaw. One of his memories he had shared with Jakson was about "the rock" in the field, when he was little, he would sit on that rock, and told Jakson "Don't forget the Rock".
He retired from the Claiborne County Landfill, where he worked for 30+ years. He started to work at age 16; worked many places prior to the Landfill. Jimmy lived in New Tazewell his whole life. Jimmy NEVER retired from "the work" God had called him to do.
