Joanna was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a supportive wife to her military spouse for over 25 years. She was a hard worker her whole life, but her main focus was raising her two children, Jerry and Jeannie.
Joanna was preceded in death by her parents, Geraldine and Douglas Jacobs of Reidsville, NC; three siblings.
Joanna is survived by her son, Jerry H. (Vicky) Cowan Jr.; daughter, Jeannie Cowan (Robert) Fennell; granddaughter, Alanna Fennell (Rick) Nelson; 3 great granddaughters, Oaklynn, Marilynn, and Evelyn Nelson; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 10, 2025 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Upper Room Ministries of New Tazewell with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM.
