

Sylvia Martin Mitchell, age 90, of Knoxville, Tennessee, peacefully passed away to her heavenly home on January 15th, 2025. She was born on September 8th, 1934, in Claiborne County, Tennessee. At the age of 13, Sylvia accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and her faith was a guiding light throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ola (Rowlett) Martin and Carlie Patton Martin, as well as her siblings: Goldie Elledge, Georgia Bush, Kattie Surber, and William Void Martin. Sylvia was also preceded by her half-brother, Harold Pete Martin.
Sylvia is survived by her loving children, Lance (Angie) Mitchell and Tonyia Mitchell; her cherished granddaughter, Keshia Mitchell; and her adored great-granddaughters, Daviana and Paisley Gabriel. She is also survived by her treasured sisters, Betty Rowland and Sharon Allen, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A visitation will be held on January 20th, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Coffey Funeral Home New Tazewell, Tennessee. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m., with a graveside service at the Martin Family Cemetery in Tazewell, Tennessee, immediately after.
Reverend Kim Collingsworth will officiate the service, with Alan Cole providing the obituary. Music by Carla Peters, Stephanie Cole, and Dave Cole. Pallbearers include Bryce England, Will Poore, Cole Poore, Jesse Rowland, Rick Rowland, and Christopher Watson.
Sylvia, affectionately known as “Grammy” to those who knew her, was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
