Amber spent her formative years in Colorado Springs, CO excelling in academics, music, and even leading her mock trial team to become 2009 state champions. She moved to New York that same year to pursue her bachelor’s degree in urban planning at NYU. She soon after attained a master’s degree in public policy from NYU’s Robert Wagner School of Public Service. She started her career as an analyst with the Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget helping to complete FEMA grants from Hurricane Sandy. Many more programs and projects followed, including her aid in the city’s response to the COVID pandemic. After 5 years of service with the city, she took her expertise across the country helping numerous states and municipalities now as a Disaster Recover Consultant with Mcbride Consulting. Her passion for recovery and resiliency touched countless people, although few would actually know her work behind the scenes.
Amber was immensely proud of her upbringing in Colorado, at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Her pride translated to passion in the outdoors, conservation, and political activism. She sought out the beauty of our nation’s landscape at every opportunity and espoused the need to protect it to anyone who would listen. Her activism even extended to political campaigns and civil demonstrations. Her fire for right and wrong was evident to all who spoke to her. She will serve as an example and inspiration in our memories.
Amber leaves behind her husband, William Markel; her mother, Sheree Lynn; her brother Noah Lynn; and two sisters-in-law Amy Scotto and Alexis Eisenberg. Her friends and admirers are too numerous to list or even count, but she cared for them very deeply. Amber will be a part of our hearts forever.
A memorial service to honor her legacy will be held 11 am on April 11th at Chas. Peter Nagel Funeral Home at 352 E. 87th St., New York, NY, 10128. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Planned Parenthood in Amber’s memory.
