Born in Queens, New York on February 12, 1931 Arthur was raised in Hicksville Long Island. Arthur described his life with a startling revelation:
“I think back on it all, and sometimes my head spins. Did that little boy in a two room Hicksville Long Island schoolhouse really grow up to be the Navy man speeding around Morocco in his red Ford convertible? How did a former policeman and draftsman end up running his own chemical distribution business? How did I go from delivering products myself in a converted trailer to a successful ever-expanding business with a fleet of trucks? How did I earn enough trust to complete business deals with a handshake or work out a contract on a cocktail napkin?
I have lived the American dream”. February, 2024.
Arthur was not a particularly good student in high school but he managed to start his own baseball team the Warriors, a local businessman supplying athletic shirts. Someone had to make that phone call. Someone had to do all this organizing and exhibit, strong executive skills, including scheduling teams to play. It all came under Arthur’s guidance as a high school student.
Arthur’s next duty was to serve his country in the Korean War. He tried to sign up with the Navy but was turned away because he was too young. He returned to the recruiting office on his birthday to enlist. When asked, “where do you wish to serve?” Arthur responded “anywhere I’m needed.” Anywhere ended up being Tangier and Casablanca in French Morocco and Malta.
When Arthur’s tour ended, Arthur became a policeman graduating top in his class from the Police Academy. He was assigned in East Williston, New York. Every day he would pass the Wheatley Hills Golf Club and dream of how nice it would be to play golf there. Years later he would become its president. Arthur decided a police career was not in his future. He was fortunate enough to work for a chemical company and decided to start his own distribution business ,55 years ago, Pride Chemical Solutions. Arthur also attended Hofstra University at night. Eight years later, he received his degree. His commencement speaker was Dr. Martin Luther King.
As Arthur settled into the Florida his lifestyle, his day-to day included playing golf, traveling, reading mysteries and of course, his favorite pastime was watching the Golden Age of movies on Turner classic movies.
Arthur may be in God‘s loving embrace, but he still lives on with his family and friends.
