Atala Egas

Atala Egas passed away on October 19, 2024, in the company of loved ones at her daughter’s and son-in-law’s home in Manhattan. She was 89. Atala was the eldest of five children and was born in Ibarra, Ecuador on April 28, 1935, to Manuel Subia and Sara Rosero. She graduated from high school in her hometown of Ibarra in 1953. She got married in Cali, Colombia on July 3, 1955, and in February 1957, immigrated to the United States with her husband and daughter, Jeannie. The family lived in Forest Hills, Queens and later in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Atala is survived by her daughter Jeannie, her son-in-law Olivier and granddaughter Jacqueline of Manhattan, NY and brother Marcelo Subia and several nieces and nephews who reside in Colombia and Ecuador; her sister-in-law, Rosario Fierro and her two children, Joseph and Elizabeth and their families; her sister-in-law, Dora MacDonald and her children, Victoria, Philip and Sharon and their families. A gathering will be held on Sunday, October 27 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at Frank E. Campbell – The Funeral Chapel ,1076 Madison Ave (at 81st Street), New York. The funeral mass will be held at the Church of St Ignatius Loyola, 980 Park Ave (at 83rd Street), New York, on Monday, October 28 at 10:30am. A reception will follow the funeral mass on Monday at the New York Junior League, 130 East 80th Street, between Lexington and Park Avenues. Please rsvp to [email protected] if you will be attending.
