

Audrey Hatfield Platnick died April 13, 2014, just shy of her 93rd birthday, from respiratory problems. In her early years, Audrey lived in Briggsdale, Colorado until her family moved to St. Charles, Iowa in the late 20s and soon thereafter bought the family farm. She moved to New York City in the early 1940s and lived on the Upper West Side for over 70 years. She was one of the first women to attend Columbia University and graduated from there in 1947 with a business degree. She married Joe Platnick in December 1957.
Until she was hospitalized in January, Audrey still worked for an architectural firm and remained active at Park Avenue Christian Church where she had been a member for over 70 years. She was a proud member of the National Organization for Women (NOW) and received the Susan B. Anthony award from NOW that honors grassroots activists dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in New York City. She also received the inaugural Elizabeth B. Grannis award from Park Avenue Christian Church for outstanding contributions by women to church and society. Six days after Audrey’s death, her husband Joe also passed away. Audrey is survived by her son Joe, his wife Kathy and her grandchildren Sara and Stephen, A memorial service to celebrate Audrey’s and Joe’s life will be held at 2pm on May 18, 2014 at Park Avenue Christian Church in New York City, located at Park Ave. and 85th St.
