On December 2, 2022, at the NCSS Convention in Philadelphia, Carolyn was recognized for her lifetime of service to the Social Studies during the Delegate Assembly.

I first met Carolyn in 1985 at the NCSS convention in Washington, DC.  At that point Carolyn had already been active in the ATSS/UFT for several years and the NCSS annual conference was coming to NYC in 1987.  Carolyn and a group of energetic Social Studies educators welcomed me into the ATSS/UFT family and by 1987 I was totally involved,  becoming president of the organization for 6 years.  

ATSS/UFT held an annual conference, the Greater Metropolitan NY Social Studies Conference.  I became local arrangements chair for this conference where I served for 37 years. Carolyn handled exhibits, and her beloved Bernie Cohen was the Conference chair. 

 Carolyn became the ATSS/UFT Executive Secretary and went on to represent us in state and national events for over half a century.  Carolyn and Bernie organized a Fall and Spring bus trip leading Social Studies educators on interesting excursions within a bus ride's radius of NYC, too many venues to mention.  Carolyn was also a connoisseur of good food, organizing many local restaurant adventures.
At the same time, Carolyn was also active in the UFT's Capably Disabled Committee and was an active UFT Unity delegate at the Delegate Assembly.  
The talents Carolyn shared with her  colleagues, over all those years were too numerous to recount here, she edited our newsletter, The SAGE, maintained all our recording communications with the state and national organizations and still found time to visit museums, collect interesting paperweights, manuscripts, and memorabilia from her jaunts around the world.  Carolyn gave us so much.  She never tired of sharing her excursions with anyone willing to listen. And she was our "resolutions" guru. No one person will ever be able to fill the footsteps she left for social studies educators to follow.  Carolyn, Thank you for all the years of friendship, dedication and commitment.

Your kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support made a lasting impact on everyone lucky enough to know you. You were more than a friend — you were a mentor,  guide and a source of inspiration through the brightest and hardest times.

The memories we shared and the lessons you taught will stay with me forever. Thank you for showing up with strength, grace, and compassion. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

I am deeply saddened by your passing. You brought so much joy and inspiration into my life, and I will always cherish the memories we shared. Being around you was always filled with fun and laughter, especially the times we sat together and shared so many laughs. I will always remember the days you took me out and made every moment special. Your kindness and wisdom have left a lasting impact on me, and I will carry them forward in my heart. Thank you for being a wonderful part of my life.

One thing I remember working with her she loved art ,  anytime I was with her she would talk about the art in the museum and her articles she wrote,  and the life she experienced, she may have been in pain in her last moments, but she would try to find the joy in her pain. May she rest in peace, she will be missed.

I worked with Carolyn briefly but was so honored to learn and be in the presence of such a brilliant Fulbright Scholar. The moments that I spent with you will forever be cherished and you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace.-
