Circa 1977, I was the lucky young boy who was matched with my "Big" through Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.  Doug McCormick was the young man generous enough to volunteer his time and resources. My mom knew from the first interview that Doug was the right guy to mentor her son. I give praise and thanks to God Almighty for that moment in time. It has helped shape my life in such a profound way. When I first heard the news of Doug's passing, I dreamt of him for three nights in a row. I thought of all the many times he brought me somewhere special; all the invaluable lessons; his kind and humorous manner; and his acts of generosity. He always showed me in an endearing way that he cared. Imagine me growing up through my teenage years, young adulthood and into manhood. Only a saintly person could have remained loyal to his commitment as my mentor for so long. I am so thankful to the Lord for sending Doug into my life. I can tell you with all sincerity that I am a better person because he was my mentor. Through this experience, I understand the importance of making a positive impact on the world. Doug was a shining example. He has impacted so many people, in so many different ways. I have been a mentor myself, multiple times - both formally and informally. Young men seem to sense that I have had this experience myself. I let them know its great to seek mentorship, but you must also pay it forward by being a positive example for someone else when the opportunity presents itself. I know Doug's life had tremendous purpose as a dad, husband, family member, friend and professional. I'd like to add that his work as a mentor was tremendous as well. His kind spirit to help others has had rippling effects. He left us with so many great memories. Doug, you are unforgettable. I love you, my brother. May you rest in heavenly peace. Doug and I were friends for 56 years and in all that time we never had an argument, we laughed with each other ever time we were together or talking over the phone. Lately Doug and I would talk on the phone  every week end and before we hung up Doug always had some jokes to share, I loved it and so did he, he always made me laugh! My life is diminished without him in it and I don`t think that I will get to laugh too much with him gone. The "Big D" will be missed by many people.
Life has not ended it just changed!

We lost one of the great ones. 
I had the honor to speak to more than 600 employees today. The feedback was great, including comments around sincere empathy for people, clear messaging of performance, hope and team. I thought to myself, I’m still in the minor leagues of leadership compared to my mentor, Doug McCormick. 
Doug represents a true gentleman. Great at business, a strong love for people, a passion outside of business, including music and performing. And the ability to positively influence so many people with his wit and charm. 
He will be missed, but though of often by me, and so many he was good enough to impact during his life. 

I'm so sorry to hear of Doug's passing.  I worked with him at iVillage from 2000-2006 and have a lot of great memories of that time.  One in particular is the time he and I took a day trip to Boston together for an investor meeting.   On our way back to NY there was a big storm and I was embarrassed for him to know that I needed a little "liquid courage" to get through the turbulence.  Doug immediately put me at ease and even shared his own fears.   I learned a lot from him.   Condolences to his family.

I’ll never forget how much Doug loved us guys singing the Ooompa song at his brother Pete’s wedding. He generally seemed surprised and couldn’t believe we made it up. I remember for the rest of that day whenever I saw him, he smiled and gave me the thumbs up! 

What a loss.  Doug was not only the dearest of friends and confidant but an inspiration for his grandchildren, children, his loving wife, Kasia, his friends and business associates around the world.  So generous he was with his time and money and had the inherent ability to lead, transform lives, motivate and be a Steller example of what we all should me.  There has been a huge chunk taken out of our lives that cannot be replaced.  The silver lining is that we had many a fine day during his  illness and he made the most of every minute, even until the end.  We shall all miss you Mr. Chairman . Doug was Peter’s best man in our wedding 38 years ago. During the reception he sang a song he had written for our first dance together. He sang so beautifully, with such feeling and love. It wasn’t until some years later that I found out he had an emergency visit to a dentist and had a tooth pulled just hours before the wedding.  
His commitment and love were greater than the pain he was experiencing.  Doug will always be our best man and beloved brother.
