I knew Elsie from so early in my childhood. I remember her coming to my grandparents house on Saturdays, they would listen to music and drink their rum and Coke’s. She always had a kind word for me and was just so loving. She and my grandmother would crack jokes while sitting around the dining room table, they would reminisce of days past. I remember visiting Elsie with my grand mother when she had an apartment over the toy store in 111th and 3rd Avenue. Elsie was a part of our family always coming to our family functions and just coming around to check up on us. Her stories and contagious smile always brighten our lives. She will be greatly missed by us all. Say Hi to Grandma Ana for me miss you both so much.❤️

Words cannot express my emotions, feelings and absolute love for Elsie. She has been a part of my life since I was 12 yrs old, and I a part of hers for 50 plus years.
She made my prom dress when I was 16 and celebrated with me my 21st Birthday. She was at my first wedding. She has always been around...never far. She and my mom were good friends and my dad held the utmost respect for her.

Elsie I sincerely love you with all my heart and I'm sure you will reunite with mom and dad and joke, laugh and yes, dance too!
Elsie you will forever be in my heart! May you R.I.P. ⚘⚘

I’m not even sure I’m going to find the words to best articulate how much I adored this woman and how profoundly saddened I am to hear of her passing.

When I look back, some of my very favorite memories are of Elsie. I’ll never forget her tenacity and strength - just listening to her reflect on her life for a few moments made it more than clear that she was one of the toughest cookies around! The obstacles and challenges she overcame to raise her family were nothing short of incredible, and (no matter her age) she was not someone to mess with.

But, above all, when I think of Elsie, I think of love. She welcomed us (my mother and I) like family from the get-go and, when we were with her, we never stopped laughing for a second. She was always quick with a joke... especially a dirty one.... which made her all the more endearing. She was a “character” in the best possible sense of the word.

I will cherish each memory for the rest of my life and am forever grateful for the time spent with Elsie. To Liz, Liana, and the entire Barreto family, I hold you all close in thought and prayer. Sending you much love and peace.

Each time we would see Elsie during our visits from California, she greeted us as if we were her own children and grandchildren.. Elsie always displayed such warmth and excitement to see us.
Even if she saw us 2 days in a row she showed the same excitement.
She would smile, cup our faces in her hands and kiss our cheeks.
Such a joy to be in her presence!
Sending our heartfelt sympathy to all of Elsie's family.

Liz, I never knew your mother but I feel like she is not a stranger because of all you told me of her.
May all the rich memories of her bring you comfort. She sure left a lot of descendants! I will be praying for you as you lay her to rest on Saturday. Te quiero mucho!
