Dr. Herbert Lessow died peacefully at his home in New York City on July 2, 2021 at the age of 91. Herb was born in Hartford, Connecticut and overcame challenges to graduate from Wesleyan University and Harvard Medical School. He had a long and distinguished career practicing as a psychiatrist for 55 years. Herb spent nearly three decades as the Director of the Yonkers Mental Health Clinic and specialized in representing the interests of children involved in custody cases as an expert witness. Herb was extremely dedicated to his work, winning several awards and the gratitude of hundreds of clients in the process. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Greene Lessow, his sister, Shirley Fishbein and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A celebration of Herb’s life will be held remotely on Zoom on July 20 at 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Herb’s honor can be made to the Jacob L. and Lewis Fox Foundation, the organization that provided him with a college scholarship and continues to do so for deserving students over 70 years later.
