Beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, died on March 17, 2021, at age 61, after a multiyear battle with early onset dementia. Born on September 18, 1959, in New York City to David Barlia and Phyllis Spitalnik, Jacki grew up in Queens and Teaneck, N.J. She graduated from Emerson College in 1981 before moving back home to New York City. There, she met Joel Florin, whom she married on April 1, 1989. Together they raised two children, David and Michelle. Jacki was a courageous dreamer. An award-winning producer with a passion for art and theater, she had 17 Broadway shows to her credit, plus three London shows and eight off-Broadway and regional productions. Those shows included "The Scottsboro Boys," which was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, and "Passing Strange," winner of the Drama Desk Award for best musical and the Tony for best book. Jacki was committed to helping others and was actively involved in the Jewish community, serving on the boards of the UJA and Rabin Medical Center, among other organizations. She was the life of the party and always knew how to celebrate the good things. In addition to her husband and two children, survivors include her brother, Brian Barlia, and stepbrothers Marshall and Allen Tracht and Laurence Arnold. Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions to CaringKind, the Heart of Alzheimer's Caregiving (https://www.caringkindnyc.org), would be greatly appreciated.
