I'm at Jack in my early twenties around the late 1970s.   I met him on the beach of North Miami, Florida, while on vacation.   Jack snapped his camera while I playfully dove, swam  and splashed in the water .  I told Jack why don't you send them into a magazine and become a famous photographer.   I stayed in touch with Jack for several years off and on.   Then as life would have it we lost touch.   From time to time I would look him up until now I saw his early passing which I am so sorry for.   Jack is a  unique and good person,  one of the best.

Dear The Lerner Family,

I am deeply saddened and devastated behind the passing of my friend and mentor, Jack P. Lerner. I pray for your entire family during this time of grief, but I also feel compelled to celebrate the life of an astounding human being. Jack quickly took me under his wing after meeting him through my mother, Pastor Renee Washington-Gardner, and continued to pour into me ways that I could be successful in my life. I truly thank God for him. He provided what I would consider “tough love” and it helped me grow tremendously throughout the past years. I understood very quickly that Jack saw tremendous potential in me and because of that he would often challenge me in ways to help me flourish. His intentions were always genuine. He also stepped in and helped me during one of the most challenging times in my life—my family cannot thank him enough and I will remember that forever. I thank him for all of the laughs and lessons. May he rest in eternal peace under the grace of God. Thank you for everything. You will be missed.

 I am so sad and sorry for your loss - and I wish you strength in this difficult time. Jack Lerner was a wonderful, generous man who knew musical talent and nurtured it by keeping it around him in his domain of The Music Building. I am forever grateful to him for his understanding of what it takes to persevere in this life of music - and for just being the righteous guy who I once sat down at a bar and drank Scotch with. Jack was synonymous with the Music building. It is obvious he loved musicians.
Over the years and decades, he gave us all a place to be creative and work through our dreams and aspirations.  
He created, and kept going a building dedicated to musicians, some who moved to NY from all over the world to play music here.
Personally, he was a fun, reasonable, lovable, and bigger than life person.  It was always great speaking with him and having his feedback when I had my jazz/blues spot in Brooklyn.
Sadly, I never got to experience his favorite lunch spot he promised to take me to.
I will go in his memory.
RIP my friend, you will be missed, but I know you will be looking down and blessing us all.

I want to share something deeply personal with you all. What truly set him apart was his extraordinary kindness and genuine heart. I am deeply saddened by his loss and feel compelled to share with you just how much he meant to me. When my parents were in hospice, facing their final days, Jack immediately offered his support. He was there for me in ways that truly touched my heart. From offering a helping hand with errands to attending the funerals of both my mom and dad, Jack exemplified what it means to be a true friend. His presence was a blessing during such difficult times, and I will forever cherish the memories of his unwavering support and friendship. Jack will be deeply missed, and my condolences go out to his friends and family during this difficult time. He will always hold a special place in my heart and in my thoughts.
