Janet Jones Schwitter, 93, of New York City and Amagansett, NY passed away peacefully in New York City on January 30th surrounded by her loving family. Janet Catherine Jones was born in Brooklyn, NY to Homer and Mildred Jones and was the oldest of six children. Being the oldest of six kicked off a lifetime spent loving, nurturing and feeding others. Over the years, Janet had a wide variety of interests; she worked in real estate and at the Museum of Modern Art, and she owned Turtle Bay Antiques in Amagansett. Janet also loved to travel and entertain. As a devoted mother of three and grandmother of seven, Janet’s greatest joy came from filling her house in Amagansett with friends and family and serving them all her famous Lasagna. She also relished a competitive game of bridge or tennis, especially when one of her athletic children was her partner. Janet is survived by her loving and adoring husband of 69 years, Frank, who she met in Springfield Gardens, Queens when he was on leave from the Air Force and she was working at Macy’s and Mutual of New York Insurance. Frank and Janet met at a mutual friend’s wedding shower where Frank looked up and says he saw the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. His recollection of that moment was that he said “I know all of the girls in Springfield Gardens, but I don’t know you”. Janet’s legacy will live on with her children Jane Keihn (Jim), Glenn Schwitter (Ann Fisher), and Craig Schwitter (Erin) and her seven grandchildren; William and Frances Ruppe, and Paul, Lily, Whitney, Voss and Vivian Schwitter. She is also survived by her two sisters, Carole Pasquarelli (Gene) and Marilyn Kehl (Bernard). She is predeceased by three of her siblings; Ann Gerbosi (Pete), Alfred Jones and Kathleen Jones. There will be a small service for family and friends this summer in Amagansett. Lasagna will be served, but it simply will not be the same.
