I had not been a patient of Dr Rosenthal for several years. I just found out he died . He saved my life so many times. He was a brilliant doctor and I will remember him always .

I first met Dr. Jesse Samuel Rosenthal in
1975.  I was one of his first patients and
saw his father, not as a patient but simply 
to have seen the two together. 

Jesse always sought to explain the reason 
for any medication he prescribed. 
As an architect I appreciated his own
knowledge of art displayed in his office.

My parents met him as did later my wife.
At first meeting my parents  presented him
with a quart of homemade pickles which
he happily accepted. 

I know of no person like him.

Dr Rosenthal was my doctor for many years and was always available to help in so many ways. His support, advice and optimism will be sorely missed.

Dr. Rosenthal was my doctor for more than 30 years, my entire adult life. I always knew that if I needed something, he would do whatever he could to help, whether medical or otherwise. I marvel at how he was that person for me and so many others. An exceptional human.  I miss him - his care, thoughtfulness, friendship, stalwart support, and jovial spirits. My condolences to his family and friends.

I just learned today about the passing of Dr. Rosenthal.   He meant so much to me.   What a great, great man.   My heavy heart is with his wife and children/grandchildren who I know he loved so much.    Know that your husband/father/grandfather helped many who were not able to help themselves.   I will never forget him and all that he did to help me make my life better.  Rest in peace Jesse.

My sister who worked with Dr. Rosenthal recommended him to me during my 40s. I only knew him for a year, but I agree with so many of the sentiments here shared among patients and friends. He was a gem of a doctor and man. Always reassuring, always optimistic. He referred to me other doctors that I needed for family. He always offered a helping hand and was a great listener as well. He clearly will be sorely missed. I wish only the best for his former patients and family. May his memory be a blessing to all.

Dr Rosenthal was my doctor for close to 30 years.  He had a unique way of caring for his patients and I cannot overstate the many ways he helped me. When I counted my blessings, he was always in the top three. I will miss his compassion, genuine concern and his brilliant mind, particularly his very New York views and insights.

Dr. Rosenthal was a very special man. He saved my life. Days into post partum after my son was born, I was in a very dark place and found him. After many doctors unreturned calls - I was referred to him on a Saturday and he called immediately. 

He picked me up and helped put back the pieces. Every call started with hi kiddo, how’s it going? I felt safe with him. More than a doctor but family.

Dr. Rosenthal was like a father figure to me...there through thick and thin. He was not just a doctor, but someone who really cared about my well being. 

He will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

The world has lost a brilliant and kind soul. He was one of a kind. 

I saw Jesse for over ten years. I wish I’d seen him sooner. I wish I could see him again. 

He held me to a high standard, lightly scolding me when my responses did not match my intellect. He was so reassuring and wise. He made me feel like it would be okay, we would work it out. 

I’m sorry to Jesse’s dear family and friends and his other patients. I am grateful to have known him.

I’ve read all of the condolences to date and they literally brought tears to my eyes. Because these condolences capture the essence and spirit of a remarkable doctor and a brilliant yet humble man who was always there for me. Dr. Rosenthal changed my life, and I often thought of him as a second father. The world needs many more people like him.

A terrible loss for his family and for so many people. I would say he probably saved my life way back in the 1980's and helped me through the ups and downs for over thirty-five years . What I will miss most is his enthusiasm for and love of life. Thank you for everything Dr. Rosenthal. Thank you.

I just got the news I am deeply saddened.   I will miss our conversations and his insight from the past 24 years.  He was able to diagnose me after struggling for 30 years .  Such a wonderful good soul I will miss very much.

Dr. Rosenthal was a bright light in my life. He lifted me up when I was facing a hard time and held my hand in a way no doctor had ever done before. I trusted him, I respected him and I will greatly miss him. He was a mensch in every sense of the word.

Dr Rosenthal was an amazing doctor and person. He really took the time to listen to his patients and help them overcome their struggles. I am very devastated to hear of his passing. The impact he has left on me as well as others cannot be put into words.

To me, Dr. Rosenthal was someone I thought would always be there. For the twenty years I knew him, he was much more than a doctor to me. He was a friend. He went above and beyond any doctor-patient relationship I've ever had. I never had any doubt that he truly cared about me and my family, not just during appointments but between them as well. He was so funny, brilliant, compassionate and accessible. He helped me through the most difficult times of my life, right up through the death of my father nearly a year ago to the day. I wish he was here to help me through his own passing! To his family, and to Shelly and Beverly, I am so deeply sorry for your loss. He will be greatly missed.

I barely have the words to express how much Dr. Rosenthal means to me.  His dedication to his patients, compassion, care and love (and brilliance) can’t be replaced.  I think of him not only as a doctor but as a friend and advocate who has been there for me as a constant support system for over 20 years.  
I knew I wished he’d retire to enjoy his life, but, I think helping people is what he enjoyed the most.  This loss is leaving me and many others with huge holes in our hearts that I hope I can fill with the good memories of him (like how he neatly wrapped up a tough scenario with a witty 2 word reply “f them”).  
I hope his family truly knows how many lives he’s touched and saved.  He never gave up on me ever, I could never thank him enough.  I don’t know what to do without him. Always in  my heart.

I am so saddened to hear of Dr. Rosenthal's passing.    He was an excellent doctor and a special human being.  I knew him for almost 50 years and just assumed  he'd always be there.  My  deepest sympathy to his family and the lovely ladies in his office, Beverly and Shelly.

Knew Jesse since my early college years. He was instrumental in encouraging and helping  me   choose to attend medical school and pursue a career in Psychiatry. He was always kind and supportive  of me during sundry academic and personal crises. His caring and  enthusiastic personality will be surely be missed by all those blessed enough to have known him.

Jesse was a genius who wore this status lightly.  He was a brilliant diagnostician. Over our 25 year relationship,  he would be able to recognize serious issues I was sometimes dealing with and would also see which things were not serious. He always listened carefully and could render practical ways to proceed.  I could always feel his compassion and the love we shared . Losing Jesse  feels devastating. I would like to express my regrets to his family for their great loss.

It's challenging for me to figure out what to write about a person who finally was able to diagnose the multiple issues I had going on and get me -- at last -- on the right track. Jesse was referred to me by a close friend who was also a highly respected psychiatrist. He said there was no one better than Jesse.  I can't understate the impact he had on my life, listening to me and being able to put the pieces of me together. I saw him for many years -- he saw me through so much as I saw him through his own health issues. His candor was so meaningful to me, his willingness to share his own humanity.  It's hard for me to believe he isn't here anymore but I take comfort in seeing other remarks by not only friends and colleagues of his, but other patients whose lives he had such a huge impact on --- like mine. I know you didn't believe in it, Jesse, but I love the notion of you talking it up with my dad, Milt, and Jerry -- the three of you psychiatrists who knew how show those who knew you all lives well lived. And I am forever thankful for all you did for me. Your care with treating me truly changed my life.

Just a beautiful, one of a kind, human being whom I had been blessed to have known for over 35 years. I will miss his sincere compassion, optimism and pragmatic view on life. Just heart broken! Condolences to his Family and to his Staff, Beverly and Shelly.

Very sorry to hear of passing of Jesse. We were close for a few years in high school and spent a lot of time together, operas at the old Met, trips to hang out in Manhattan. He was brilliant in high school, top of the class, knew the answer when no one else did. Lovely parents (my Mom was close to his Mom Sivia in Hadassah), brother David, also ver accomplished, and sister Johanna, very accomplished too. My condolences.

I am stunned and saddened by my brilliant doctor of 40 years!  Dr. Rosenthal helped me when I was stuck in terrible anxiety in my 20s.  He helped me along those bumpy times until I became steady and myself again.  Over the years he was my touchstone in staying well.  The doc and I had many friendly conversations not only about family ( who he was so full of love and proud of) but also about New York City, travel and classical music. I will miss him dearly.

Dr. Jesse was much more than an amazing doctor for me, he had become a trusted friend.  I always looked forward to our sessions together.   He was one of a kind and will be missed so much.

I was profoundly sad to learn of Jesse's passing- I've known him for 30 years, both in his capacity as a medical professional and as a friend. I was a long time NY'er and Jesse embodied what was best about NYC- an innate curiosity, a brilliant mind and a great sense of people and the world.  Jesse knew more about diagnostics than most doctors in other specialties and I would often run stuff by him just for a second opinion. We stayed in touch long after I moved to Texas and I have fond memories of his sense of humor about life and its travails. He would probably tell each of us to live as fully as we can.  He will be sorely missed. I am so sorry-- to all of you who knew and loved him. I did.

The news of Dr. Rosenthal’s passing seemed impossible — he was so full of life and yet shared that loving energy with everyone — he demonstrated the saying that you have to give it away in order to keep it. A patient of his for almost 20 years, Dr. Rosenthal kept me afloat and seeking joy.  He always expressed such pride and affection for his family, who have suffered such a blow. My thoughts are with you.

I'm heartbroken today.  Dr. J was positive force in my life for more than 32 years and the suddenness of his passing has me speechless. He was my doctor (of course), but also my dear friend and mentor and advisor and validator and more, through normal life and many upheavals over the ensuing decades.  He was always available and always seem to have the right answer and guidance that never failed.  We ended each session with the words "love you" and I will treasure our relationship. 

His passing leaves a void for me, but my immediate thoughts and condolences are to his family that I've heard so much about.  I'm sorry for your loss and I'm sure that your memories of him will be a constant source of joy and comfort to you forever.

I was a very anxious and somewhat depressed young man, also with a low thyroid condition in 1985, when I got a referral to Dr. Rosenthal. Since them, right up to the present, he was attentive, friendly, concerned, and actively helpful to me. He has helped me to manage my problems that are, thankfully, much better now. I owe him an enormous debt for his help. I am very sorry he is no longer with us to do more good for people. Thank you for everything, Dr. Rosenthal.

At the absolute lowest moment of my life the phone call I made that turned everything around was the one to Dr Rosenthal. Never before have I had a doctor that would fight for me the way he did and it’s hard to imagine I will again.  He was one of a kind and the impact he had on me will be felt for the rest of my life and for that I am extremely blessed.

Jesse was a kind and steadfast soul, the very finest of practitioners.  
I sent many patients to him, and they were invariably impressed, enlightened and improved from the consultations.

In Loving Memory of Jesse Rosenthal

It is with a shattered heart that I write these words, still unable to fully grasp that Jesse is no longer with us. Just last week, we spoke — his voice as steady, kind, and filled with light as always. I never imagined it would be the last time.

Jesse Rosenthal was more than a friend. He was like a father to me — a guiding force who showed up when life felt unbearable, who held me steady through darkness with nothing but love, wisdom, and unwavering presence. He kept me alive when I didn’t think I could go on. He reminded me, again and again, of who I was and who I could become.

He was a living angel on this earth. A rare kind of man — soft-spoken but fierce in his goodness, humble but radiant in his impact. The world feels colder without him in it.

I will carry his memory with me always — in the choices I make, in the compassion I extend to others, and in the strength I find in moments of struggle. He lives on in all of us who were lucky enough to be touched by his grace.

May his memory be a blessing. And may we all aspire to be even a fraction of the light he was in this world.

Wonderful doctor.  My condolences Carole Mallement

I was a patient of Jesse’s. He was dedicated to all his patients, telling us to call to let him know how we were doing if there was a medication change - even over a weekend. He was interested in his patients’ lives and remembered the details of our lives. I looked forward to our check-ins. I will miss his presence in my life, his optimism and his sense of humor. This is a loss that will be felt by a broad community of people who  were touched by Jesse.

I offer my sincere condolences to his family. Your loss is immeasurable. May all the beautiful memories of him bring you comfort.
