Maria Udenburgh Goldwater, age 79, of Manhattan, died on February 22, 2013, of a short illness after years of managing the advancement of Alzheimer's disease. Born in Brooklyn, she was one of six sisters raised in the Bronx. Maria began her career i 1951 as a legal secretary to Richard M. Goldwater, one of the senior partners at the law firm of Goldwater & Flynn. In 1965 she volunteered in the primary and regular election campaigns of Jonathan B. Bingham for the U.S. House of Representatives, and then joined the staff in Washington D.C. as his personal secretary.After her marriage in 1966 to Richard M. Goldwater, she returned to New York and continued to work for Congressman Bingham. She obtained her BA, cum laude, from Marymount Manhattan College in 1987, and worked for many years as a Personnel Administrator. She is survived by her sisters, Olympia Santiago, Evangelina Gonzalez, and Carmen Nieves; brother-in-law, Peter Nieves, 15 nieces and nephews and three step-sons, David, Daniel and Harry.
