Ridolfi – Maria Mercedes, passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday November 27th at the age of 71. Beloved wife of Nick Ridolfi, loving mother of Natalie Wyll and Alexa Ridolfi and son in law Jeff Wyll, adored sister of Nellie Lopez and brother John Lopez and cherished grandmother of Ella and Drew Wyll. Visitation and memorial services will be held at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home, 1076 Madison Ave. (at east 81st St.) on Saturday December 4th, 2021 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
A native New Yorker who thrived on the pulse of the city and a born entrepreneur, Maria was able to pursue her passion for designer styles and fashion items by founding and running A Second Chance Designer Resale, a retail business in the heart of Manhattan, which she opened in 1993 and continues on to this day.
Maria’s sense of style and understated elegance was only surpassed by the love she had for her family and friends. A devoted mother and grandmother, she was able to achieve success in the world of business while raising two beautiful and devoted daughters who became integral parts of the business and helped drive its growth over the last several years. Her grandchildren, Ella and Drew, were an endless joy to her brightening her day through their boundless energy and love for their “Mimi”.
At her second home in Greenport, L.I. Maria would enjoy a break from the hustle and bustle of city life and running a business to enjoy quality time spent with family and friends by the shore. An avid gardener, Maria would love to spend hours on end tending to her roses, hydrangeas and other assorted plants and flowers in her garden. She loved to see things grow and flourish. The beauty of her garden reflected the beauty of her soul and she was at peace with the world when she tended to her flowers. She would also make time to stage her famous garage sales which became the event of the spring season each year. She enjoyed these events not so much for the things she sold but more for the people she met and the stories and experiences that were shared.
Maria’s world revolved around her family and close friends. They were first and foremost in her life and were the core of her being. Compassionate, determined, loving and strong she would choose to see the good in people rather than the bad and reach out to those in need or less fortunate when she could. To those who knew her she left an indelible mark on their souls and was always a beacon of light providing direction, love and compassion. Rest in peace, she will be missed forever.
