Marie Rizzi, a proud native New Yorker, was born on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and spent her childhood in Brooklyn, where she attended school and later met the love of her life, Vito Rizzi. Together, they built a beautiful life, moving to Long Island to raise their young family before eventually retiring to the warmth and sunshine of Florida. After Vito’s passing, Marie returned to New York City, embracing the vibrancy of the place she always called home.
A devoted mother to her three children—Maria, Michael, and Patricia—Marie’s greatest joy was her family. She especially adored her four grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them. Family occasions were the heart of her world, filled with love, laughter, and traditions that will be carried on for generations to come.
Marie had a deep passion for life’s simple joys—shopping for the perfect find, cooking incredible Italian meals that brought everyone together, sewing with care and creativity, tending to her garden, crafting with love, and even tap dancing with a spirit that never dimmed. Throughout the years, her devoted canine companions—Candy #1, Lu Lu, Candy #2, Fluffy, Bowie, Nico, and Toby—were her constant and cherished friends.
Despite facing numerous health challenges, Marie’s strength and resilience never wavered. She endured her battles with unwavering grace, undergoing countless treatments and medical trials, all with the hope of helping future generations live healthier lives. To the doctors, nurses, and caregivers from Lenox Hill, NYU Langone, NY Presbyterian, and beyond—your dedication and compassion gave Marie the best possible care, and for that, we are forever grateful.
In her final years, Marie found a warm and loving community at Sunrise at East 56th, a place she truly called home. She often shared how much she loved being there, always speaking with gratitude about the incredible staff who cared for her so deeply. Their kindness and devotion gave her the gift of more time, for which we will always be thankful.
Marie is now reunited with her beloved husband, Vito, with whom she shared 42 wonderful years. While our hearts ache in her absence, we take comfort in knowing she is free from pain, embraced in the love of her Lord and Savior.
Marie is survived by her loving children, her four cherished grandchildren, and her faithful companion, Toby, who brought her endless comfort and joy.
Mom, you will be missed beyond words. May you rest in peace, surrounded by love. We love you always.
