

Mary P. Gardner, aged 72 of New York City passed away on August 17, 2024. Born on July 9, 1952 in New York, NY, Penny was a lifelong resident and enthusiast of the city’s vibrant culture.
A 1970 graduate of The Spence School in NYC, Penny furthered her education at Pine Manor Junior College, Marymount College and Hunter College. Her career encompassed several roles including working at Manufacturers Hanover Bank, where her late father had been a Senior Executive; Xerox Corp. as a staff trainer; and as a certified dog groomer, reflecting her deep love for dogs - especially her own: Nicki, Gigi, Pippin and Paddy.
She was a devout worshipper at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. Penny's life was marked by her commitment to service, as evidenced by her roles as a long time Treasurer of Altrusa, a national woman's service organization, and her volunteer work at various soup kitchens in NYC. Her hobbies included swimming and dog grooming. Penny was preceded in death by her parents Mary Dowd Gardner and J. Marc Gardner, as well as her cousins John F. Collins, Jr. and Reverend Monsignor David J. Joyce, Jr., a lifelong devoted friend. Penny is survived by her two cousins, Sheila J. Peabody of Yarmouth, ME and Marc E. Joyce of Holyoke, MA. She also leaves her dedicated, caring friends Nancy Oleksak Morin and Edward Morin of Old Saybrook, CT and her Godson, David Malafapopoulos of Randolph, NJ.
Penny's family would like to extend sincere thanks to all of her dedicated healthcare workers, as well as to her helpful neighbors during this difficult time.
Family and friends are invited to attend Penny’s committal services at The Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Ave., Hawthorne, NY, on Monday, August 26th, 2024 at 12:00 Noon.
Services are being facilitated by Frank E. Campbell – The Funeral Chapel, located in New York City.
A memorial donation in Penny's name can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
