Mary Kettaneh died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends, April 3, 2016, aged 102 years. She is survived by her beloved children Joyce Kettaneh Longworth, Lorna Kettaneh, and Edward Kettaneh. She was predeceased by her husband Francis Kettaneh, and her son Anthony Kettaneh. She leaves behind seven beloved granddaughters and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mary Shoucair Kettaneh was born in 1913 in Beirut, Lebanon to the late Farid Shoucair and Adele (Chiha) Shoucair. She married Francis Kettaneh in 1934. During the Second World War she traveled to New York City where she and her husband soon made their home.
In addition to adoring and caring for her family, she volunteered wholeheartedly for the New York Metropolitan Committee for UNICEF. In 1985 the French Government honored her as a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. She lived life with gusto, generosity , and elegance.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be offered at a future date.
