aged 72 passed away on January 24, with his loving wife, Terry Maher, at his side. For over 30 years Max was the director of neurosurgery at NYU/Bellevue, where he influenced - and saved - many lives. Although he liked to think of himself as a curmudgeon, Max was a loving, kind and dedicated physician, scientist, mentor and above all a wonderful friend, brother, cousin, uncle and cherished husband. He was the son of Ruvin and Edith (Landes) Koslow and grew up in Queens. Max graduated from Dartmouth College and from Howard University College of Medicine; he did his internship at Bronx Municipal Hospital, residency at NYU Medical Center and fellowships at the National Hospital for Nervous Disorders in London, the National Institute of Health, and St. Barnabas Hospital. From 1997 until his retirement in 2011 he was affiliated with NYU Medical Center, directing the neurosurgery program at Bellevue Hospital Center. Max was also an enthusiastic jazz fan, and spent every Thursday night at the Village Vanguard at "his" table. After his retirement he embarked on a new avocation - producing a jazz album with two noted musicians, Andrew Cyrille and Bill McHenry. He was very proud of the excellent reviews. It was a great note to go out on. Max will be missed by his sister Frieda (Peter) Wallison and brother Joseph Koslow, his cousins Fred and Dorothy Packer, Diane Fisher, Bobbi (Fisher) and Luis Montero, Frieda (Falk) and Edward Gershuny, all of his loving family-in-law, Elizabeth Maher, Andrew and Susan Maher, John Maher, Catherine and Edward Smith, and Eileen and Vince Illuzzi, by his many dear nieces and nephews, and by his heartbroken wife, Terry, who will miss him forever. Visitation will be at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home, 81st Street and Madison Avenue, on Friday, January 27, at 2-4pm and 6-9pm. Memorial service will be at Frank E. Campbell on Saturday, January 28, at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
