Norman M Feinberg, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Washington, Connecticut on February 15, 2025. He is survived by his wife Arline, his sons Mitchell and David, his sister Carolyn and numerous nephews and nieces. Norman was a force of nature – as a devoted father and husband, and as a prominent real estate developer and passionate philanthropist. He was deeply involved with the Brooklyn Museum from 1990, serving as Chairman of the Board from 2006 to 2011. He helped guide the museum through tumultuous times, including its 1999 censorship conflict with Mayor Giuliani. The new education center gallery bears his name, as does its restaurant, “The Norm.” Norman actively served on numerous non-profit boards throughout his life. He was a director at The Center for Discovery, the renowned facility dedicated to helping children and adults with developmental disabilities in Harris, NY. Leveraging his real estate background, Norman played an integral role in the construction of a children’s specialty hospital at the center. He was also a trustee at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children and NYU Langone Cancer Center, providing many years of experience helping these institutions thrive. A Brooklyn native, Norman came from modest means, working summers as a waiter in the Catskills to pay for his studies at New York University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in business. In 1961, he started the Gateside Corporation with four friends, turning it into a hugely successful real estate development company. He built hundreds of multi-dwelling units as well as factories, corporate parks and residential towers in the tri-state area. He also developed the Haverstraw Marina, the largest marina on the Eastern seaboard at the time. He had a lifelong love of travel, art and skiing. He was a mentor to countless friends and co-workers. He made enduring friendships through his membership in YPO and CEO, and he cherished his time with them. An open and charismatic individual, Norman was always looking forward, excited about the next adventure. He will be sorely missed.
Services will take place at Frank E. Campbell on Saturday, February 22 at noon, with a private burial on Monday. The service will be livestreamed for those unable to join in person - https://memorialstream.online/norman-feinberg/
