Your father was an amazing man. I met him 40 years ago 1985 when he came with Stanley to my office in Camden NJ. We were introduced by our attorney in Philadelphia Michael Markowitz. I was 22 years old and my then girlfriend and now wife of 37 years Tama spent an amazing very impactful day together. The topic and purpose for the meeting was The Plaza Hotel in Camden. I’ll never forget Saul having a little electronic coffee trading gadget where he was trading futures or making purchases at auction. Over the next 30-40 years Whenever I would come up to the second floor office at Zabars to the “office” Saul was moving and making it happen.  I was typically going to meet with Stanley.  Saul would always stop to say hello engage ask a question or two and generally show interest in giving guidance. He has had an infrequent but significant impact and while Tama and I have hd much success in our lives it is because of having excellent role models and mentors like SAUL. I’m sorry for leaving this message so late I only found out about Saul’s passing today. I immediately watched the entire service. Wonderful job. It was sad to learn of Saul Zabar's passing as he was a wonderful man. My father, Aaron Klein, worked at Zabars for a number of years, and when he moved on to start his own delicatessens in grocery  stores, he maintained a close relationship with the family.  Any time I was in New York and stopped by, people seemed to know who I was, "Oh, it's Aaron's daughter," and I continue to order lox and bagels at Hanukkah for my extended family here In Texas with me.  They are a kind and gracious family, and I know that Saul Zabar will be greatly missed.  Phyllis Klein Klatsky

For anyone who grew up on the Upper Westside, Zabars was their other synagogue. A place you went that would always make you feel good and special. The Zabars are truly the Royal Family of the UWS.
Their passion, and love for the residents, their staff, and their customers, knows no bounds. The JCC is part of that legacy. My families business started on Broadway in 1936, 2 years after Zabars opened, yes we are the newbies. My grandmother and Mrs. Zabars  both worked in  stores that were started by their husbands. they shopped in each others stores for decades.
Saul and Stanley have been the Town Shop's landlords for the past 13 years, they cherish family businesses, and have always been very good to us. I loved seeing Saul on the street, or in the store, he had that magical glint when he saw you. I will miss that glint, and his passion for work, he was an amazing man, who lived a beautiful life. I have shopped at Zabar’s for over 50 years. I always enjoyed seeing Saul do what he always did best, minding the store. I would see him fixing displays, arranging product and tending to the business he loved so passionately. I saw him recently sitting on his chair in the front of his store and knew he was failing.

Such a special person is so hard to find…

He was loving, compassionate and truly 1 of a kind.

It’s hard to imagine he is no longer here,

But spiritually he is with us so do not fear…

In our hearts 💕 he will always be near.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Saul was a great man, and was admired by many in and outside of Zabars.
