Susan Safran Hermanos died at the age of 85 on January 31, 2025. Susan was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, to Phyllis Shankman Safran and Ira Wolff Safran. Susan graduated Valdeen High School and Finch College. An interest in the decorative arts evolved into formal study at Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, where she earned an M.F.A., contributed to many research projects and served on the Exhibitions Committee. At the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Susan was a member of the Visiting Committee of the Medieval Department. Predeceased by her daughter Ellen Hermanos, Susan is survived by her husband of 64 years Robert Levy Hermanos and her son Steve Hermanos, her daughter-in-law Karin Taylor, her grandson Ansel Hermanos, and innumerable lifelong friends and relatives. A memorial service will be held in the spring at Temple Emanu-El in New York.
