Susan H. Silverman, 78, of New York City, beloved mother and grandmother, died Saturday, April 24, after a courageous four-month battle against Covid-19.

Susan was born on January 8, 1943 in New York, NY to Ralph and Gilda Herson. She grew up in Mamaroneck, NY and graduated in 1964 from Connecticut College with a Bachelors of Arts in French. After college, she worked as a nursery school teacher and then spent the majority of her professional career as an executive assistant, including work at the National Broadcasting Company and Culbro Corporation. Susan devoted much of her time to volunteer work, with significant contributions to fundraising efforts and event planning for the Red Cross. In addition, Susan was an accomplished artist, skilled in both painting and sculpture, and also enjoyed knitting and playing the piano.

Her proudest achievements were raising her two daughters, Robin and Debbie. Susan loved her daughters deeply and would rarely miss a chance to talk to people about them. Susan and Debbie enjoyed travelling together at home and abroad and she often spent time visiting Robin and her family in Massachusetts and in Maine. She was a doting and devoted grandmother who relished attending her three grandchildren’s dance recitals, school plays, and sports games. She also adored her two dogs, Molly and Gigi. Susan made everyone smile and she lit up every room. She was elegant, funny, and loving and meant so much to so many people. We will always hold her in our hearts.

Susan is survived by daughters Robin and Debbie Silverman, her brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Caryl Herson, her son-in-law Harry Keates, and her three grandchildren, Emma, Noah, and Jonah Keates.

A funeral service will be held at 12 pm on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Frank E. Campbell - The Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Ave, NY NY. An interment will immediately follow at Sharon Gardens Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.

One of the sweetest moments I can remember. That’s what she wrote on the back of this photo. Mommy, you were the best mother in the world and I will love you and miss you forever.

Susie was so sweet and had a beautiful smile. She was always so kind to our family and we really enjoyed our time with her at many, many Silverman/Keates family gatherings. Her pride in her family was a joy to be near and we were lucky enough to see some of her artwork, as well. We will miss her immensely and feel fortunate to have known her for more than 25 years. May her memory be a blessing to her children, grandchildren, and everyone whose life she touched. Love from Heidi, Kurt, Erik and Matthew Fliegauf
