Dear Laurie, Louise, and Bob (and family),

I was not aware of Sybil's passing until I saw the wonderful accolades about her in the New York Times article just published today.  Our condolences to all. The end of an era to be sure but a life well-lived.

I first met Sybil in a professional capacity in 2008, a meeting particularly memorable to me because she corrected my pronunciation of a word I used.  But we came away as friends and I was always delighted to receive invitations to the lecture series she did at NY Law in the name of her husband. More recently we would meet once or twice a year at her apartment for lunch and good, often probing conversation.  She was unique and I will miss her.

My sincere condolences to the shainwald family. I had many late dinners at their house with my friend,  laurie. Sybil was an amazing human. I hope one day to connect with laurie again.

Dear Laurie, Robert, Louise and All the Family and Friends of Sybil Shainwald, 
I first met Sybil twenty years ago, and she was a great, helpful advocate for me, for which I have been sincerely grateful all these many years.  In addition to Sybil’s expert help, though, Sybil has also been a loyal and cherished friend. All these years we have kept in touch. I visited while in NYC, and we emailed, called, and exchanged cards and gifts over the years. It was always my pleasure to receive a delicious cake during the holidays, (my Christmas), and for me to choose a special book for Sybil each year. During our calls we would discuss the book and family and work. Sybil was interested in my life and family and shared my sorrows and joys with me. After attending Sybil’s funeral online, I see that, in fact, this was Sybil’s great gift: her love for people and her ability to develop, cultivate and nurture friendships and relationships. Sybil had the ability to make each person feel singularly important, valued and special. I will greatly miss Sybil and I pray that Sybil will rest in eternal peace in Heaven. I am so sorry to hear about her passing. in the 1990's she represented me in my DES lawsuit.. she won my case, We tried for many years to have a baby and then found out due to the des i was unable to get pregnant and after one miscarriage, we found her.. and then we were able to adopt.  we were only able to do so due to the settlement.. We even adopted 2 newborns right from a hospital 6 weeks apart.. so we brought them to NYC to show Sybil how her settlement helped us have a family..
Unfortunately May 22 , 2018 our son Josh died by suicide..  it will be 7 years.. we also have a daughter who is doing ok working on her masters degree ,, We continue to grieve the loss of our amazing son and I started a non profit Joshs benches for Awareness. Did she have a foundation by any chance? Many do and mental health is such a huge issue these days.. We can donate an awareness bench in a special place that maybe she frequented to help save the lives of those struggling or in crisis. We were blessed and have been helping many.
May Sybil rest in peace and to her family.. please know that she was amazing and if it wasnt for her we would not have been able to adopt our 2 children,, unfortunately we loss one to mental health which is such a tragedy.

Sybil , her husband Sidney and wonderful devoted daughter Laurie were lifelong friends of my parents and  mine for over 50 years.

Sybil was a strong brilliant trailblazer who did so much good advocating for women’s issues, as a great wife, parent, grandparent, friend and her intelligence, passion for health, justice and art graced the lives of all who knew her.

My condolences to the family and may she rest in peace.

Sybil and I had a friendship of 35 years that was ever-lasting! My husband Harrison (left) and I spent endless hours with her discussing the state of the world, politics, art and jewelry- all of her favorite topics!
