Barbara was born on April 29, 1942, to Hammy Charlie Hall and Armenia G. Green-Hall in Opelousas, Louisiana. She was the youngest of 12 children. She attended Bigras Elementary School and graduated from Holy Ghost Catholic High School. She continued her education at Southern University in Opelousas, Louisiana. Barbara was blessed with three daughters, Judith Marcia Hall, Carol Denise Hall-Mitchell, and Sheri Elaine Hall-Harrison. In the mid-60s, Barbara made a career and opportunity decision to move to Los Angeles, California with her three children. As a single parent, she embraced the challenges and financial adversities of raising three children by herself. Barbara went on and had two great careers and retirements working for General Motors as a Chassis Supervisor and St. Jude’s Medical Incorporation as a Quality Check Leader.
Barbara or Baub as she was affectionately known by, unconditionally, unselfishly loved her children and supported them all her life. She loved staying connected with her family back at home in Louisiana and being involved with her family activities. She immediately lit up any room she entered and made an impact on so many people. She was a joyful presence with her fancy clothes, beautiful hairstyles, creative fashion choices, and candid personality. She was a true example of a servant’s heart. She was not only devoted to her family and friends but also to her community. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and providing food for others when needed. On February 20, 1996, she was presented with a community service award for her efforts and dedication in feeding the homeless and assisting people in need.
Barbara was passionate about her Catholic faith. She loved serving the Lord and attended mass daily at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church. She was a loyal member to Legions of Mary at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church. Her acts of kindness and service provided spiritual works in the parish and the community.
Barbara was known as a fierce and independent woman who held fast to her beliefs and defended those she loved. She loved her family dearly. Her children were the light of her life and her relationship with her brothers and sisters was cherished. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, colleague, and friend. She impacted and touched the lives of so many people.
Her legacy will carry on forever reminding us to live a life of meaningful acts of love and service, like Christ modeled for us. She will truly be missed and will never, ever, be forgotten.
She is survived by her daughters, Judith Marcia Hall, Carol Denise Mitchell, Sheri Elaine Harrison, older sister Audrey May Brown, youngest brother Joseph Augusta Hall, Son-in-law Michael Harrison, Sister-in laws Doretha Hall, Rose Aurtborlee Hall, Orelia Hall, lifelong best friend Laurnia Taylor, grandchildren, Charles Jordan Manigo, Bliss Alanna Dohoney, Michael Allen Harrison, Michelle Barbara-Rose Harrison, and Aaron Sean Williams, great-grandchildren, Charles Jordan Manigo Jr., Cassidy Jordyn Manigo, Emi Jazmyn Dohoney, Kya Elizabeth Dohoney, Mykalah Jean Harrison, MyKenzi Elaine Harrison, Mason Blu’ Manigo, Jaycen Malachi Williams, Alexis Maurin Cleere, Andrew Graham Cleere, and Lucas Scott Cleere. “Dear Momma,
Denise, Sheri, and I are incredibly grateful for the way you raised us and shaped us as women. You never were afraid to be our Mother, to put your foot down, to teach us right from wrong, and to make sure we did our best. You always let us know we had a Momma who cared about us, who believed in us, and who was there for us no matter what. I will forever miss you and I love you endlessly. Until we meet again, rest in peace my beautiful Momma.”
