Gary J. Robert was born on June 13, 1948 in Seattle, Washington to Claude George and Helena Johnson Robert, both from Louisiana. When he was a young teen, his family moved to Los Angeles and were eventually joined by older brother Claude. Gary joined the Seabees for a time and later graduated from Stanford University and UCLA School of Law. An attorney since 1978, he was employed by Fremont Insurance before opening his own practice in Inglewood specializing in Workers Compensation, later moving the office to Santa Clarita. Gary was an excellent attorney and an even better husband and father. He married Fran Scala in 1989 in their home in Santa Clarita. They welcomed a son, Gary Robert II, the same year, and daughter Amber arrived in 1992.
Gary was defined by his loyalty, courage and persistence. He enjoyed his beloved Lakers, golf, football, and backpacking with his brother, son and cousin Roy. But his favorite pastime was spending time with his children and granddaughter Rosie. He was dedicated to his family and friends, his clients and his community, and made an impact on several young lives.
Gary continued to practice law when he passed away, surrounded by family, on March 9 at Henry Mayo Hospital after a brief illness. Those he left behind will hold him close in our hearts, guided by his examples of integrity and strength, until we meet again.
