Gene R. Ranstrom

Gene R. Ranstrom passed away on January 11, 2021. He was born on September 22, 1930 in Warren, Minnesota, the son of Robert W and Edlyn V (Pearson) Ranstrom. His family farmed in Vega Township, MN before relocating the San Fernando Valley in 1951.

Gene joined family in the San Fernando Valley after serving four years in the Air Force. He was a Korean War veteran. Gene worked in the defense industry and retired from Litton Industries. Gene was an active member at the Sons of Norway, Norrona Lodge for 25 years. He was also an active member of Calvary Lutheran church in Arleta, and liked to volunteer. Gene enjoyed meeting with his retiree group and always kept in touch with his many friends, including his childhood friends in Minnesota. Gene was a devoted son, caring uncle and friend, and loving dad and grandpa figure who positively touched many lives over many years.

He is survived by his brother Jerome (Helga) Ranstrom, a large extended family including cousins, nieces and nephews and by Lara Smith and the M. Inman and E. Fisher families, Sherry G. Ranstrom and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Cora E. (Johnson) Ranstrom, and brothers Morris, Justin and William Ranstrom.

His graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Eternal Valley Memorial Park in Newhall, CA and will be offered live-stream. A virtual memorial will follow on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 1:00 pm PST via Zoom by invitation where friends and loved ones will honor Gene’s life.
