January 18, 1941 - November 30, 2020
George Elmer Bergren was born in Culver City to Elmer and Gertrude Bergren in 1941. He was the only son and the youngest of four siblings.
George served as a proud altar boy for many years at his neighborhood Catholic church. Upon graduating from high school, he received his AA in engineering. He was an extremely proud navy officer serving from August 1962 until August 1968 as an aircraft mechanic. He enjoyed carpentry, architecture, landscaping and anything to do with the great outdoors. He worked as an independent insurance broker for over 45 years and in his free time, enjoyed being with family at his cabin and working on his majestic yards. He loved his pet chickens, roosters, birds, turtles and dogs (especially Misty). He became known as Chicken George throughout his years. He was always willing to help friends with carpentry and projects as well as assisting his daughters with home architectural improvements and backyard landscaping. Married to a Hispanic woman, he rapidly became the most loved “Gringo”. Even though he never grasped the Spanish language, he had the ability to connect with and share his life with relatives in Mexico. He will always be an adored husband, father, and Poppy to his grandchildren. He touched so many lives with his sincere, gentle nature, his smile and the natural twinkle in his eyes.
George’s life abruptly ended on November 30, 2020, due to Covid complications. George is survived by Silvia Bergren, his wife of 51 years, daughters Renee Russo, Michelle Lynch, Nicole Knox, grandson Matthew Russo and granddaughters Sophia Lynch, Audrey Lynch and Vivien Knox.
