Henry was born on October 5, 1948, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the eldest of seven children, with two preceding him in death.
Henry met his wife, Susie, in 1966, and they were married in 1968. They had four children and lived primarily in Culver City, California. Henry enjoyed many things, including watching westerns and sports, particularly baseball. He loved to ride Harley-Davidson motorcycles. And he loved horse races and could pick winners frequently.
Henry was a man of many layers. On the surface, he was strong and unwavering, never backing down from a challenge, regardless of the odds. He stood up for what was his and what he believed in with unshakeable resolve. But beneath that tough exterior was a heart of gold, filled with generosity and compassion. But one of his greatest joys came from his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather. The man who could intimidate anyone with a stern look would melt into a puddle of laughter when his grandchildren were around.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mamie Leyva, brother, Gerard Leyva, and sister, Judith Leyva. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Leyva, and children: Mark Leyva (Belen), Anna Leyva, Henry Leyva, and Rita Cardoza (Byron). Henry had eight grandchildren: Javier Ramirez (Jessica), Selena Mejia (Tony), Adam Leyva (Deanna), Savana Aguayo, Moses Ramirez, Nadia Leyvam Giovanni Cardoza, Markee Leyva, and seven great-grandchildren. Also, brothers Daniel Leyva, Ruben Leyva, Joseph Leyva, and sister Belinda Bustamante. Henry's extended family includes aunts, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and cousins, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
