

Jeannine was born November 29, 1939 in Brookhaven, Mississippi to the late Ezell and Bessie Lee Johnson. She was first of six children. She accepted Christ at an early age. Preceding her in death are three of her siblings (Ezell, Demetrius and Pinkie), son Kenneth D. Hammond, and two husbands.
Jeannine attended and graduated in 1958 from Alexander High School in Brookhaven. During her time there she was a member of the basketball team. Upon graduation she and two of her classmates Ann Billups Thomas and Bertha Handy Rasce relocated to Los Angeles, California. In Los Angeles, Jeannine enrolled in Los Angeles City College where she played basketball.
Jeannine loved her high school and returned for its reunions every two years. She loved traveling there by Amtrak. She will be missed by her classmates who lived in various cities in USA. She kept in touched with them throughout the years.
After the arrival of her son, Kenneth, she went on to work for various companies including LA Hanger Co., Mattel Toys, Cedar Sinai Hospital, Los Angeles Unified School District and US Postal Service.
Jeannine was a jolly person always smiling and never met a stranger. If she could do you a favor she would. Jeannine loved to cook and entertain friends/family at her home in San Fernando Valley, in the City of Pacoima.
After retiring from the US Postal Service, Jeannine was a regular at the community senior center. She assisted with receptionist duties, food bank and her favorite bingo.
Jeannine grew up in St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she would occasionally play the piano. One of favorite songs she'd play was "Just a Closer Walk with Thee". In her later years she studied and practiced the Catholic faith.
Jeannine departed this life on Monday, October 21, 2019, one month before celebrating her 80th birthday. Her generosity, warm smile and laughter will be missed by all.
Jeannine leaves behind two sisters, two brothers, grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
