You’ve been gone six years and I miss you so much. You were taken from us much too soon. I love you and look forward to seeing you again💕

I just learned of this last week.Connie, please accept our thoughts and prayers for my cousin John. I still remember being 12 years old when you visited us in Connecticut and we spent a day in Manhattan. You both were great role models for what a couple should be.  I'm so very sorry for you and the entire family.

I only remember as a child visiting the Steidls in Glen Ellen and watching John play rugby at the time with my brother and all the Steidl gang. I always felt that cousin John was that soft spoken example of leadership and trust I never forgot throughout my life. Funny how those little parts play into the total life picture. So sad for your loss, so happy that Both Connie and John enjoyed a wonderful life together for 50 years.

So glad we got to know John and spend time with the two of you during happier times.  Have fond memories of Las Vegas and our visits to California and Texas.  Love,  Cheryl & Donna

John Richard Steidl, Jr
August 25, 1942 - October 15, 2016


  John Richard Steidl, Jr. passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving wife, Connie, on Saturday, October 15, 2016  following a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

John was born  to Madelyn Christina Steidl and John (Jack) Richard Steidl Sr. on August 25, 1942 in Jackson, Tennessee.  

He leaves his wife Connie of 50 years, his father John (Jack) Richard Steidl Sr. and his wife Kate,  his son Mark Christopher Steidl, brothers Phillip, Lou, and, Gary Steidl as well as his three grandchildren, Scott, Jack, and Claire Steidl as well as his extended family and friends. John was preceded in death by his mother, Madelyn Christina Steidl on May 5, 2002.

After moving with his parents from their home in Glen Ellyn, Ill, he lived in Camarillo California and attended Santa Clara High School in Oxnard, California and then St. Mary's College in Moraga, California. He later earned his Master's Degree in Business at La Verne College at Point Mugu, California.

He and Connie were married in 1966, and shortly thereafter he enlisted and served in the U.S. Army for four years.

John and Connie spent most of their married life in Thousand Oaks, California where they raised their son, Mark.  John retired after working 35 years for State Farm Insurance in Thousand Oaks and Bakersfield.and after a brief stay  in Georgetown, Texas, he and Connie settled in the Santa Clarita Valley were they have resided for the last 7 years.

John was an avid athlete who completed many triathlons and marathons, as well as three Ironman competitions in Hawaii and Canada.

John was a kind, loving, and gentle soul with, great integrity and compassion and was loved by all those who had the honor and privilege of knowing him.

Special thanks and gratitude goes to Hospice and all the wonderful caregivers that helped us though this long and perilous journey.
