Joseph Gerald Walters

He will be remembered by his wife of 55 yrs, Sanae, his daughter, Sandra Eckhardt and her husband Franz, his grandchildren, Kristine and Robert. He will also be remembered by his brother Jeff and many relatives and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph, "Joe" and Elizabeth, "Betty" Walters.

Born in Stanley, North Dakota, after graduating Garrison High School, he attended Minot State College for 2 yrs, although he didn't graduate. Shortly after he joined the Navy in 1962 . He served in the Naval band as a trumpet player for 12 Yrs. During his time in Japan he met his wife, Sanae, who was teaching English. He lived in Japan and Florida, eventually settling in California. He had many fond memories of his time in the Navy. He was very proud to serve his country.

After being honorably discharged, he worked for Reiyukai, a Buddhist organization as an administrator for the USA division. His time with the organization was filled with many adventures, wonderful people and lifelong memories. He retired after 34 yrs.

Retiring in 2008 , he spent his days with family and volunteering teaching Go at schools or bridge to friends. Teaching others his hobbies brought him great joy.

The joy of his life was his family and his grandchildren.
