Born to Hilda and Kermit Douglass, Kathy had fond childhood memories of growing up in Estille Springs, Tennessee. She enjoyed the mentoring and loving environment of her grandparents' sharecropping farm. Her desire to become a nurse began after experiencing a great lack of healthcare services, affecting her community and family.
She moved from Tennessee at age ten and lived in Alaska, Texas, and Riverside, California, where she finished high school. and married at age 18.
Always a valiant warrior, she fought her way through nursing school while caring for two sons to complete her schooling and start a 32 year nursing career.
Kathy met Doctor Samuel P. Dixon III, and they married soon afterward in 1986. Working together, they brought health care to underserved communities in California and in parts of Africa.
She is survived by her loving husband, two sons; Arthur Z. Ford and Matthew Ford, one stepson Samuel P. Dixon IV, two grandchildren, Matlyn K Ford and Douglass J. Ford, two siblings; Brother Wayne and sister Denise, a loving family, many friends, and a world much better for her gracious touch and presence.
WE THINK ABOUT YOU ALWAYS.
