Mary Franks was born January 1, 1930 in Annapolis Maryland to parents Allan and Annie Chew. She was the youngest of 11 children. She attended Wiley Bates High School, where she graduated with her degree, in general education.
In 1951 Mary met and married Louis Daniel Franks Jr; together they shared 7 children in common along with a bonus-daughter, Curlene Franks-Addison who is the oldest, followed by Louis Daniel Franks III, Barry Franks Sr, Gil Franks Sr, Kim Franks- O’ Kain, Miles Franks Sr, Lateef Franks and Sherri Franks. Her lineage begets 26 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and cherished the moments shared by all.
After raising her children, Mary began working for the University of Southern California, where she remained for 15 years as a receptionist for the Davidson Conference Center. She eventually retired to spend time and hang out with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite thing to do was driving her son’s Porsche at a high rate of speed while passing the highway patrol at least twice.
Mary is preceded in death by her sons Barry Franks Sr, Miles Franks Sr and grandson Gil Franks Jr.
