Nanette “Nan” Fae Lagasse Gaither was born on July 9, 1950 to Carolyn “Carol” and Francis “Frenchy” Lagasse. She was the oldest of three daughters, who grew up in the San Fernando and Newhall areas. While living in Mentryville, in Pico Canyon, she graduated from William S. Hart High School in 1968 and then married her high school sweetheart, Kennith “Gordon” Gaither in August of 1970.
In 1974, she gave birth to the first of two sons, John Joseph, with Stephen Patrick following in 1976.
Nanette loved “helping out” in whatever community that she lived in, whether helping the alumnus at Hart High or working the polls, knitting clothing for the homeless or teaching special-needs children (14 years) in San Diego. She loved living in the San Diego area where she supported the local community projects. She was also involved in scouting, crafts, jewelry making¸ history and genealogy.
Nanette could never imagine her life without her wonderful cats (her babies) that she would rescue from “the streets”. She loved and cared for each one, knowing that she was doing “what God called her to do by taking care of his helpless creatures."
She is survived by her loving husband, Gordon; sons, John and Stephen (Holly); mother, Carol; sisters: Laurette (Samuel) Freel; and Suzette (Tim) Roderick. Nanette also had 2 nieces and 3 nephews, 2 great-nieces, 4 great-nephews with many cousins and close family friends as well.
Nanette was “laid to rest”, after a critical health episode, at Eternal Valley Memorial Park in Santa Clarita, California on February 1, 2018 near her “beloved” father.
