Peter Joseph Brodersen, former Dallas resident, passed peacefully and surrounded by family, on April 29, 2013. Peter was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 1, 1928 to Joseph and Mary (Kennedy) Brodersen. Peter was soon followed by his sister, Marie, and brother, William. The family had little but each other, and love of words and music. He loved Coney Island, and as he grew older, it was The Strand, The Savoy and The Latin Quarter. At seventeen, Peter joined the USMC, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant and was Honorably Discharged as a WWII Veteran.
Upon returning home to New York, Peter took a start-up position on Wall Street. It was there that he met his future wife, Peggy, whom we wooed over the phone before finally meeting for a Christmas Eve drink. Their marriage lasted fifty-seven years and created five children, seven grandchildren, and millions of memories.
Peter’s career took him from Wall Street to Dallas, TX, where he had a successful 25-year career with First Southwest Company. He was also active in local politics, serving as President of the Greater Dallas Republican Forum, Election Judge and Precinct Chairman in the north Dallas area, along with volunteering for many local and national Republican campaigns.
In addition to his family, Peter loved words, puns, Scrabble, Tex-Mex, music, and knew the lyrics to nearly every Big Band tune that ever was. He could come up with a song for any event, and loved to leave ‘em laughing. He loved movies and theater. He woke up smiling every day, he made great meatballs, and even better pancakes. His life revolved around his family, whom he supported in their every endeavor. He also lived his life by three tenets: his Boy Scout oath, his marine oath, and the Ten Commandments .
Peter will be sorely missed by his wife Peggy, and children: Suzanne & Jeffrey Pledger, Ed & Nicole Brodersen, Matt Brodersen, Liz & Alex Walker, and Patricia Brodersen; grandchildren Caroline, Nathan, Sam, Casper, Erin, Jack and Grace; and his dear brother William Brodersen.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you support the Texas Health Presbyterian Foundation, who so wonderfully cared for Peter.
