Reinhold “Fred” Traub, 86 of Santa Clarita, California formerly of Wallingford and Kennett Square, Pennsylvania passed away on May 25th, 2025. Born in Germany in 1938, Fred embarked on a life-changing journey and traveled across the Atlantic in 1959 to the United States. He settled in the Philadelphia area where he would reside for 58 years.
Shortly after arriving in the United States, Fred met and married the love of his life, Margarete. They shared 57 years together and raised four children: Sandy, Peter, Michele, and Dan. When he wasn't at the bakery, Fred enjoyed spending time relaxing in Cape May, NJ. Hobbies that he loved included: real estate, investing, watching/coaching and playing soccer, and billiards.
In 1966, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, Fred established Traub's Bakery in Delaware County, Pennsylvania which became a beloved institution for countless local families and loyal customers. For 30 years, he successfully managed his business, embodying the American Dream by working diligently to create a better future for his family. Through this family business he employed dozens of people, who became extended family. He sold the business to start a new chapter with Margarete, finally taking a well-earned respite from the long hours and the demands of a bakery.
In his later years, Fred & Margarete moved to California, where they continued to enjoy time with loved ones. Margarete predeceased Fred, when she died in 2018. He is survived by his four children: Sandy, Peter (Cindy Wu), Michele, and Daniel (Mell Motio) and his seven grandchildren: Samantha, Annalise, Gabrielle, Peter Jr, George Paul, Logan, and Maike. Fred is also survived by his sister Helene and brothers Fritz, Manfred, and Traugott.
Fred's unwavering dedication to his family, his entrepreneurial spirit, generosity, humor, and his embodiment of the American Dream will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and the sweet memories of a life well-lived.
