Salvatore Albanese of Santa Clarita passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, March 31, 2023. The Lord mercifully called him home, ending more than two years of loneliness compounded with his mental and physical deterioration.
Salvatore was born on January 6, 1934 in Reggio Calabria, Grotteria Italy to Giovanbattista Albanese and Rosa Ursino. He was the oldest of nine children, with three brothers and five sisters. On February 6, 1960, he married the love of his life, Maria Carabetta. After waiting two years for his green card, he was able to move to America to be with his beautiful wife and start a family.
He was a hard worker who embodied the American Dream. While working as a paper handler for over 35 years, he was also a landlord, a winemaker, a gardener and a comedian. As a parishioner of St. Clare Catholic Church, he was a eucharistic minister and a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. His love for God and his family was the driving force of everything he did.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, his parents, three brothers, one sister and son-in-law (Jeff). He is survived by his children Loridana (Tom) Lopez, John (Jamie) Albanese and Gina Lavo, his ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, four sisters, and countless nieces and nephews.
While our hearts are heavy with his loss, he will live on forever in our hearts. Our lives are richer for having been blessed with his presence. He brought joy to everyone he met. His smile lit up a room and his “true stories” were always good for a laugh. May he rest in eternal peace in the presence of the Lord and his beloved Maria.
A rosary service will be held at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church (19606 Calla Way, Canyon Country, CA 91351) on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 10:30am with the Funeral Mass immediately following. Graveside service will be at Eternal Valley Memorial Park (23287 N. Sierra Highway, Newhall, CA 91321).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Knights of Columbus Council 9740.
