
William Thomas Eggleston, Jr. died on August 23, 2017 while a patient at the Veterans Administration Palliative Care Unit. He was born on November 11, 1947 in Norfolk, Virginia and moved to Newport News in 1951. He graduated from Hampton Roads Academy in 1965 and Randolph Macon College in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He married Angela Orleen McLellan in Macon, Georgia in 1970. After serving in the U.S. Army, he attended the University of Virginia where he was awarded a Master's Degree in Accounting. He lived in Winchester, Virginia where he was self-employed. He returned to Newport News and worked for Jamestown/Yorktown Foundation. In retirement, he found joy in working as a substitute teacher for Newport news Public Schools and in cruising with his wife. He will be missed for his sense of humor, honesty, even temperament, patriotism, and thoughtfulness. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Angela M. Eggleston, his son, William Thomas Eggleston, III, his sisters, Ann Karsner, of Willisburg, Kentucky and Margaret Stevens of Midlothian, Virginia. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic church on August 29, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Wounded Warriors or to the American Cancer Society.
