Ms. Betty Karen Jones

Betty Karen Jones, 84, of Newton, NC passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025. Betty was born on August 8, 1940 to Francina (Limes) and Cyrus Jones, and grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1958, Betty received a bachelors degree from the University of Nebraska in 1962, and later a masters degree in reading science from Indiana University. As a young teacher, she traveled to Japan and taught elementary school on Misawa Air Force Base in 1966. After returning to the United States, she established a new home and lifelong career in the Sunnyvale, California school system, where she influenced many young lives over the next 35+ years as a dedicated teacher. Betty was an independent, self-sufficient woman who was an avid supporter of many organizations assisting parks, nature, and animals. She was a fun-loving member of the family who especially enjoyed picnics and pug dogs, and will be greatly missed.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Francina and Cyrus, and also by her brother, Steve.

She is survived by her sister Janis Wuertz, brother-in-law Dwight Wuertz, nephew David Wuertz (Vi), twin nieces Kimberly Rabago (Rob) and Karen Bhaskar (Ravi), great nieces Madeline Cervantes (Diego), Rose Wuertz, and Naomi Rabago, and great nephews Mark Bhaskar, Brian Wuertz, and Tommy Rabago (Nora).

Betty’s family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
