Donald Carroll Matthews

Donald Carroll Gabby Matthews, age 80, of Conover went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 18, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice. He retired from Conover Chair Furniture after 12 years of dedication.

Born May 31, 1932 in Catawba Co., he was the son of the late Marshall Carroll Matthews and Edra Hedrick Matthews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Helen Matthews; brother, Paul Taylor; sisters, Rebecka Kersey, Margie Martin; son-in-law, Jerry “Jug” Chapman and son, Donald Ray Matthews.

He is survived by son, Jerry Matthews and wife, Daisy Lynn; daughter, Mary Chapman; sister, Alice Cazire; grandchildren, Amanda Eury and husband, Brian, Carey Smith and husband, Mark, Joseph Matthews, Amber Matthews; great grandchildren, Aaron Matthews, Alexis Moser, Lauren Smith, Everette Smith, Jake Eury, Sara Eury and Gabbriella Rowe.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel in Newton with Rev. Bobby Langston officiating. The burial will follow at Conover City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.
