Forrest Leonard Lawing Sr.

Born January 17, 1922, he was the son of the late Charlie Avery Lawing and Fay Yount Lawing and was finance director as well as textbook coordinator for 50 years for Catawba County Schools.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret DeRhodes Lawing.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Leonard Lawing and wife, Julie of St. Simon’s Island, GA; daughter, Karen Windham and husband, Dan of Hickory, NC; sister, Norma Lynch of FL; grandchildren, Shannon Welch and husband, Brian of Frankfurt, Germany, Joshua Lawing and wife, Chicako of Honolulu, HI, Lt. Ryan Windham and wife, Kristen of Mobile, AL, Adam Windham and wife, Caroline of Hickory, NC, Joseph McKinnie of Atlanta, GA, Katie Walters and husband, Rob of Atlanta, GA; 7 great-grandchildren, Bryson Welch, Sydney Welch, Noah Lawing, Kaelyn Windham, Brinley Windham, Kirk Windham, and Nolan Windham.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at First United Methodist Church in Newton with Rev. Dr. David Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Newton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to1:45 p.m., at the church.
