

Born March 11, 1926 in Buffalo, SC, she was the daughter of the late Harper Thomas Higgins, Sr. and Sophie Black Higgins. In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Allen H. Bandy, Sr. and a brother, Harper Thomas Higgins, Jr. She grew up in Union SC, and was a graduate of Winthrop University. Jackie is survived by her daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Bandy Rowe and husband Mitchell of Hickory, NC and a son, Dr. Allen H. “Al” Bandy, Jr. and wife Debbie of Newton NC; grandchildren, Peter Allen Rowe and wife Julianne, William Beau Rowe, Ashley Marie Bandy, Amy Michelle Bandy and Laney Rebecca Rowe, and many nieces and nephews.
On July 26, 1950 she married Dr. Allen H. Bandy, Sr. and resided in Newton NC. Together, they made a home full of love and laughter. She taught high school business at Mooresville, Cherryville and Maiden prior to starting her family. Once her first child was born, her sole focus was creating a happy nurturing home for her family. She was the consummate homemaker. She took great pride in raising a family, often serving in PTA, band booster and other supportive organizations. She enjoyed participating in the NC optometric auxiliary. She was a long time member of First United Methodist Church in Newton, serving in many capacities within the United Methodist Women and church educational programs. She loved to play bridge and drink coffee with friends. Until only a few months before her death, she loved attending plays at The Green Room Community Theatre.
Jackie has resided at Abernethy Laurels since 2009. The family would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers at Abernethy that have loved Jackie like their own family. To allow her many friends who reside at Abernethy Laurels to attend, her Memorial Service will be held at Spirit Place at Abernethy Laurels, 102 Leonard Ave, Newton NC on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 4:00 PM. The family will receive friends at Spirit Place from 2:00 to 3:45 PM prior to the service. A private graveside service for family will be held prior to the service at Eastview Cemetery in Newton, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to: The Green Room Community Theatre PO Box 1317, Newton NC, 28658 or the Building Fund at First United Methodist Church in Newton, PO Box 926, Newton NC 28658.
