Born February 22, 1929, in Worcester, MA, she was the daughter of the late Clayton Sanford VanWert and Ruhamah Rebecca Hammond VanWert and was a teacher/tutor for over 25 years at Jan B. School in her home and she tutored children up until November, 2013. She was also a board member for the Newton Depot, a cause she truly loved and wanted to preserve.
Janet was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Conover, NC.
Survivors include her three sons, Dana A. Bixby and wife, Darlene of Conover, Daniel B. Bixby and wife, Sandra, of Conover Duane D. Bixby of Newton; brother, Clayton H. VanWert and wife, Patricia of Auburn, MA and Tarpon Springs, FL; seven grandchildren and twelve great- grandchildren
A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Conover, with Pastor Dennis Hacker officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
