Mary Sue Tucker Eckard

Mary “Sue’ Tucker Eckard, age 83, passed on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton, NC. Born August 21, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Henry Polk Tucker and Mary Wakefield Tucker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Franklin Eckard; brothers Lee Tucker, Myron Tucker, Richard Tucker, George “GW” Tucker; sisters Mavis Tucker, Rachel Tucker, Ellarea Sprouse.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Linda Walker and husband, Howard “Butch” Walker of Hickory, Kathy Eggers and husband, Dale of Newton; brother Lewis Tucker of Rhodhiss, grandkids, Kenneth and Clinton Walker, Joel Eggers; great grandchild, Jaxson Walker; special bonus grandson, Wil Walker and wife, Legina; four-legged friend, River.

Sue retired from Sherrill Furniture after 35 years of service. She was involved in the shipping of fabric samples and customer orders.

Sue was a great cook. Some of her specialties were persimmon pudding, ham salad, red velvet cake, banana pudding. She loved travelling with the seniors at West Hickory Senior Center. She has fond memories of Disney World, Nashville, Pigeon Forge and Atlantic City.

Finding good deals was one of Sue’s hobbies, she would take her niece and go bargain hunting. Her closet and kitchen was well stocked with things she found.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at Willis Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel, 56 Northwest Blvd Newton NC 28658, at 3pm on Friday July 14.

The family will receive friends from 2pm to 3pm on Friday July 14.
