

Paul Edgar Hall, Jr., age 85, of Claremont, NC, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton, NC. Born May 12, 1927, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Paul Edgar Hall, Sr., and Leona Couch Hall Stewart. Paul was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Claremont, NC, where he had served as a deacon. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served during World War II. Paul retired from Southern Hosiery and had worked as plant manager for Kayser Roth Hosiery. He also enjoyed fishing, listening to blue grass music, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Frank Stewart and Charlie Stewart; sisters, Mary Stewart and Laura Seitz; great-grandson, Jonathan Russell Smyre; and brother-in-law, Robert Henry Little.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Rachel Colene Little Hall of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Larry R. Smyre of Claremont, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Betty Hall of Conover, NC; brothers and sister-in-law, Dale and Nancy Stewart of Conover, NC, and Joe Stewart of Claremont, NC; sisters and brother-in-law, Wilma and Robert Deal of Newton, NC, and Liz McGuire of Texas; grandchildren, Amy S. Fox and husband Alan of Claremont, NC, Jody Smyre and wife Kristy of Statesville, NC, and Steve Starnes and wife Jennifer of Hickory, NC; great-grandchildren, Rebekah Smyre, Zachary Smyre, Braeden Fox, Nathan Smyre, Dustin Starnes, Ashley Starnes, Tristen Starnes, Dillon Patterson, Kaitlyn Johnson, Andi Johnson and Jenna Johnson; friend Tanya Smyre, mother of Rebekah and Zachary; brother-in-law, Howard Eugene Little of Claremont; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Claremont, NC. The Rev. Dr. Gary Haddock will officiate and burial with military rites by Newton American Legion Post #16 will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:45 PM on Sunday.
