

She was born on March 25, 1938 in Ripley, MO to the late Ruby Ilene Parks. Shelby was adopted by the late Roy Flynn and moved to Chicago, IL in 1943. She married James Robert Filip in 1957, who preceded her in death in 2011. Shelby lived a full life in Northern Illinois and was a dance instructor for several hundred children in the 1960’s – 70’s. She and her family relocated to Hickory, NC in 1979, and was owner of ITP Business Communications. The company is still run by her son, Michael. Shelby was a very creative person who loved to shop and decorate. She is credited with inventing many new things, including the Oreo cookie milkshake! Shelby loved her family very much, especially her seven grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Michael and wife, Denise, Richard and wife, Judy, and Robert and wife, Tina; brothers, Thomas Flynn and Timothy Flynn and their spouses and children; grandchildren, Benjamin Filip (FL), Samuel Filip (China), Ryan Filip (IL), Brett Filip (IL), Bailey Filip (IL), Derrick Filip (FL), and Jared Filip (NC).
A memorial service for Shelby Jean Flynn Filip will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, November 8, 2015, in the Spirit Place of Abernethy Laurels in Newton, NC.
Inurnment will take place in Veterans Cemetery in Salisbury, NC at a later date.
